ABOUT THE CITY

Cluj-Napoca, located in the north-western part of Romania, the second largest city after the capital city, Bucharest, is the unofficial capital of the Transylvania region. It is home to 6 state-funded universities and 3 private ones, with an average of over 60,000 students. Among these universities, “Babeş-Bolyai” University is the largest, with more than 40,000 students. The university was named after two prominent Transylvanian scientists, the Romanian physician Victor Babeş and the Hungarian mathematician János Bolyai. Its distinct feature is the multicultural character – it offers bachelor, master and PhD programs in Romanian, Hungarian and German languages (of course also in English, French, etc.).

Cluj has a vibrant nightlife and landmarks dating to Saxon and Hungarian rule. It also has a diverse and growing cultural scene, with cultural life exhibited in a number of fields, including the visual arts and the performing arts.
